U.S. Supreme Court Rules for Shareholders, Against Halliburton, on Standards for Class Certification, June 6, 2011

JUSTICES SET ASIDE RULING BY 5TH CIRCUIT COURT OF APPEALS

In a unanimous decision, the justices overturned denial of class certification in the federal securities action, determining that a plaintiff in a securities class action is not required to demonstrate loss causation at the class certification stage of litigation, to invoke the fraud-on-the-market presumption of reliance.

SCG’s Jane Nettesheim is Plaintiff’s economic expert at the class certification stage of this litigation.
